Baptism service Gospel message
Acts 16:16-34
- A request that was desperate – the jailer’s life was forfeit. He thought he had lost his prisoners. For some people it takes a big crisis for them to realise that they cannot live without God. We need to step off the broad road and follow the narrow road. “What must I do to be saved?” is an odd question to ask. He had heard Paul and Silas singing and talking about God. He had realised how much he needed to get right with God.
- A reply that was definite – there is a difference between believing in and believing on Jesus. We need to believe on Jesus. Jesus suffered God’s wrath so that we don’t have to. It’s not about religion, it’s about a relationship with the living Jesus that matters.
- A reaction that was decisive – the jailer responded to the Gospel. How do you respond to the Gospel?
