God’s bigger picture
Acts 1:4-8
We think of today rather than tomorrow. God wants us to be part of His bigger picture. The words of Jesus should not have been a shock to the disciples. God had promised to Abraham that all people would be blessed through him. This passage speaks of:
- The command of the King – The disciples had been with Jesus for three years. They had witnessed His ministry. Jesus was now preparing them for the future. Jesus rules and reigns over all time and space. Jesus commands them to go and make disciples, but He also commanded them to wait for the Holy Spirit because without Him they could do nothing. Why do we not learn to wait and receive His Spirit?
- The Kingdom come – The disciples still wanted a physical kingdom rather than a spiritual kingdom. The kingdom comes through:
- Words – do we gossip the Gospel?
- Works – how do people see our body language? Actions matter. Are we different enough for our words to be heard?
- Wonders – do you have an expectation of the supernatural?
- The Kingdom coming – Where are you? Where do you call home? Where do you not want to go? Where can you not imagine going? Jesus said they would go beyond where they would be comfortable with.
