Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch – Sharing the Gospel
Acts 8:26-40
From the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch we see:
- The sovereign work of the Holy Spirit – Evangelism begins and ends with prayer. Only God can change the heart of someone who is in rebellion against Him. We plant a seed, but only the Holy Spirit can make it grow.
- The surging heart of the sinner – People who do not know Jesus are lost. All sin must be punished, it cannot be ignored and has to be paid for. God desires all men to be saved. Salvation is found in no-one else but Jesus. Religion gives no guarantee of anything because it is based solely on works.
- The Scriptural basis for salvation – We need to pray for divine appointments. God can and does provide opportunities for us to share the Gospel in personal ways with people that will speak directly into their circumstances. Only Jesus can save us from our sins. We have to tell people the Gospel in order for them to hear it and be saved.
- The sincere expression of a saved man – People will respond in faith when they hear the Gospel.
It is our solemn duty to speak up for our Saviour and the Gospel.
