Sow for yourself righteousness
Hosea 10:12
Israel was divided into two kingdoms. Hosea is writing to the northern kingdom of Israel. Worship of God was still the official religion, but it was mixed with idolatry. This mirrors the UK today. Hosea 4:1-2 could be said about the UK today. God’s message was not one of condemnation and judgement. God did not reject His adulterous people. He longed for them to repent and turn to Him. The message of Hosea is that God was ready to forgive His people if they would only repent. God spoke to Israel through Hosea’s life. We let God down and rebel against Him. We are lukewarm towards Him at best, but God extends His love towards us again and again. God is willing to forgive us repeatedly if we will return to Him. God’s love never ends.
Will you return to God today?
- Sow righteousness for yourself – sowing seed is vital to the farming process. You have to sow if you want a harvest. The harvest is dependent on what type of seed you sow. What are you sowing into your life? It matters what we sow into our lives (Hosea 10:13; Hosea 8:7: Hosea 10:12). What effects of bad sowing are you living with? It matters what we think. How are you training your brain (Philippians 4:8)? How much good are you doing (Galatians 6:7-10)? Are you doing what pleases God or what please yourselves? Sowing righteousness means sowing things and doing things that are right (Psalm 15:1-5).
- Reap the fruit of unfailing love – if we sow righteousness we WILL reap unfailing love from God. God’s love never ever fails. God’s covenant of love towards us was sealed in Jesus’ death and it can never fail (Romans 8:35-39).
