The Gospel of Luke: Jesus is for everyone – Be ready for Jesus’ return
Luke 17:20-37
What does Jesus say here about His return?
- Don’t waste time on End Time theories – The Pharisees were so fixated about who the Messiah would be and when He would come that they missed Jesus. They completely missed God’s promised Messiah because Jesus did not fit their theories. They had no idea who they were asking in verse 20. Jesus said the coming of the Kingdom of God could be observed because it was already there. All we can know is that Jesus return is always getting nearer. Do our ideas and theories about what God will do and what He will say stop us from responding to God? Do they stop us communing with Him? Don’t lose your focus on Jesus.
- Jesus return will be like: (a) Lightning – It will be sudden and fast. (b) The days of Noah – It will come at any time. Normal life will be going on. (c) The days of Lot – Normal life will be going on. (d) This – We should not look back or go back for anything. We need to repent now before it is too late. It is vital that we are ready for Jesus’ return.
- Get your priorities right – Being right with God is far more important than what we consider valuable. Lot’s wife was on the brink of being saved, but her heart was still in the city of Sodom. She looked back and missed out on the salvation God had for her. Don’t miss out on the salvation God has for you. We have an inheritance that cannot fade or perish.
- Be Kingdom people – A literal translation of verse 21 is “The Kingdom is within your reach”. It doesn’t matter who we are or what we have done we can reach the Kingdom of God. We need to reach out in repentance and live a Kingdom life.
