The Gospel of Luke – Jesus is for everyone: Experiencing God’s blessings in tough times
Luke 6:17-26
Jesus’ teaching in Luke 6 is very radical. He turns upside down what we are used to hearing about blessings and curses. There is nothing here about the false teaching of health, wealth and prosperity gospel. Jesus says the opposite. Jesus was speaking to His disciples. They were ordinary people who knew poverty, hunger, etc and they were going to be going back to a life others would call cursed after their experience of Jesus.
Do not believe people who say, “Come to Jesus and all your problems will go away”. Jesus promises His presence in our lives whatever our circumstances are, but He does not promise to zap us out of the realities of the daily life that we live in.
As Christians we need to be careful not to despise, oppress, take advantage of the poor and needy people around us. Whatever their background, if they are Christians, they are children of God. If we are mistreating others then we are mistreating Jesus Himself.
Jesus says here, “With your relationship with me you are blessed by God even though you may be going through tough times”.
