Unprofitable servants

Unprofitable servants

Matthew 25:21; Luke 17:7-10

Are you looking forward to hearing the words, “Well done good and faithful servant”?

it’s not about how much we do. We are unprofitable servants. Do we have a proud spirit in what we have done for God? We cannot make God our debtor! We cannot pay God what we owe Him by serving Him. We are indebted to Him for our very lives.

When we have done all we have been commanded to do we need to say we are “unprofitable servants”. We should not expect medals for doing as we are told (Ephesians 2:8-10). We can earn nothing by doing what God requires us to do. The only thing that can redeem us is what Jesus did for us on the cross. Our sin debt is paid in full. Jesus said “Tetelestai” – It is finished, meaning paid in full. Jesus and Jesus alone is a profitable servant. We serve not to earn salvation, but because Jesus has already paid our debt. Our delight should be to serve God, not out of an obligation or to gain something for ourselves, but because of what He has done for us.
